Meet Bully, a Chihuahua born in 1999, who has silently observed over two decades of history, from presidential administrations to technological marvels. Though he might not recall these moments, his 23rd birthday celebration was nothing short of unforgettable.

For the first 21 years of his life, Bully reveled in the love and companionship of his devoted family, relishing outdoor adventures and playful romps in the park. However, when his previous owner found it increasingly challenging to provide the care he deserved, Bully embarked on a new chapter in his life, finding a loving home at The Mr. Mo Project—a senior dog rescue organization led by Chris Hughes and his compassionate wife.

Despite his advanced age, Bully retained his spirited and feisty personality. Described by his former owner as a “large dog in a tiny dog’s body,” he hadn’t lost his spark. According to Hughes, Bully was still playful, kind, independent, gentle, and boasted a distinctive old man’s bark. He continued to enjoy playtime, sometimes even taking charge and bossing around other Chihuahuas.

As a senior dog, Bully cherished his well-earned nap times, requiring more rest than his younger counterparts. Hughes shared that Bully could fall asleep anywhere, whether it was on the kitchen floor, a comfy bed, or even a pee pad. For his birthday, the Hughes family went above and beyond, adorning their home and presenting Bully with two of his favorite things: soft biscuits (carefully crushed for his aging teeth) and, of course, plenty of quality nap time.

The Hughes family’s dedication knows no bounds when it comes to making the elderly dogs they care for feel cherished and special. They celebrate a wide array of occasions with their senior furry companions, whether it’s marking the end of cancer treatments, celebrating birthdays, commemorating adoptions, or even hosting a Christmas in July. Every effort is made to ensure these senior dogs understand just how loved and valued they are.
