All animals possess their own distinctive qualities that make them equally lovable and unique. Meet Newt, an adorable puppy whose face has earned him the nickname of a “grumpy old man” due to a massive scar inflicted on him by his mother during birth. As a result of the injury, he lost the top part of his snout, making him stand out from other canines.
Newt was originally owned by someone who transferred him to the New York Bully Crew shelter in Texas, USA because of the expensive medical treatment he needed. However, fate had different plans for him as he was eventually adopted by Liesl Wildhart who runs Lovable Dog Rescue and Animal Sanctuary, a home for rescued dogs. After adopting him, Liesl decided to change his name from Brute to Newt and brought him to her home in Eugene, Oregon.
Liesl discovered Newt through social media and fell in love with him instantly. She stumbled upon images and videos of him on her Instagram account, which piqued her interest. As an entrepreneur, Liesl wanted to adopt Newt as her personal dog. Newt also has two dog siblings named Picasso and Wacku, who used to live with Liesl. Initially, adjusting to the changes was difficult for him, but now he leads a happy and fulfilling life with his owner and fellow canines. He underwent a facial surgery that rendered him looking like an amphibian and earned him the nickname “grumpy old guy” on social media. However, people shower him with love and affection. Though he requires assistance with eating, it doesn’t pose a problem since his owner is always present to cater to his needs. Liesl explained to Metro that she must hand-feed him everything because he finds it hard to ingest food and must not consume too much at once, or else he may vomit.
Newt and his siblings have facial deformities, with Wacku missing his snout and Picasso having a deformed face. However, according to Newt’s owner Liesl, he fits perfectly with her family of dogs and is loved by everyone for his lively and goofy personality. Liesl also mentioned that she loves pups like Newt who live life to the fullest and don’t dwell on what they’ve lost. In a recent Instagram post, the “wonky dogs” visited Starbucks and Newt had his first Puppuccino, which he loved. Thankfully, both Newt and Picasso tolerate whipped cream without any issues!
